The Plant Castle

In Cambounet-sur-Sor, 10 minutes from Castres, lies the Château des Plantes in the middle of an enchanting countryside. This is the only place where Pastel is produced in the Pays de Cocagne [the Albi – Toulouse – Carcassonne triangle]. Growing, extracting, dyeing or manufacturing pastel-based products: let us tell you a colorful story!

From yellow to black to blue: the pastel prism

In the heart of a very beautiful domaine, visit an authentic Pastel production, “Made in Tarn”. The Pastel Master will show you around while revealing some of its secrets, notably how one goes from fields of yellow Isatis Tinctoria flowers, to the black-colored ball of Cocagne, to finally obtain a blue dye …

Blue-colored glasses

Just like in the Middle Ages, practise the art of authentic pastel dyeing yourself. You can dye a T-shirt or a scarf that you can take home with you! Admire the shades of blue. During the visit, you will discover, amongst other things the differences between true Pastel and Indigo, the industrial production workshop as well as the passion that animates the Pastel Master !

Pastel + know-how = remarkable products

Here, Pastel is not only used for dyeing. It is also an aromatic and medicinal plant used for the production of many cosmetic and pharmaceutical products: creams, soaps, body oils … So, whether you have a green thumb or not, the cute little boutique of the Château “A côté du potager” (by the veggie patch) and its wide variety of products should not leave anyone indifferent!
