Municipal Theater

Castres has a magnificent flamboyant Italian Rococo style theatre, located opposite the Bishop’s Garden and the Goya Museum. Let’s start with a small presentation in 3 acts of our municipal theater.

An air of Opera

Unmissable monument of Castres, this very beautifuf Italian-style theatre was designed by Joseph Galinier, a student of Garnier, architect of the Paris Opera. Inaugurated in 1904, with a capacity of 550 people, it is an important place for artistic performances, equipped with fine technical equipment. Its imposing and original exterior architecture should not leave you indifferent.

Did you know ? Castres is a garrison town and the theater was originally a cinema (called l'Odéon), a place to provide intertainment for our soldiers

Interior scene (s)

Like the exterior, the interior of the theater is also a masterpiece of architecture. First of all, the auditorium, in red velvet, gives it a cocooning appearance. In a cozy atmosphere, on comfortable chairs, you will be in utmost comfort to attend a performance.

Note that the painting “La Musique” which adorns the foyer and the dome are by Jean-Paul Laurens, artist, among others, of the Pantheon.

The cultural season

And if it was the most beautiful of the seasons? The cultural season of the Théâtre de Castres! Indeed, thanks to hi-tech sound and light equipment, superb acoustics and varied and quality shows, you will have good vibrations and positive energy for the whole year. The theatre’s season runs from the beginning of October until the end of May each year.
