Sentier des Gentilshommes Verriers
Saint-Amans-Soult
Description
The trail takes you to the heart of the Balck Mountain, where glass craftsmen have marked the history of the 15th to the 18th century. The Peyremoutou forest glassworks is a testimony of this past, in the middle of the chestnut and beech forests.
Since the fortified town of Saint Amans erected in the XIIIth century and its bell tower classified under the Monuments Historiques, the path of the glass gentlemen goes towards the Black Mountain. It offers itself to you with its elegant and generous forms which conceal the secret of these glass craftsmen. The path passes near the Château de Soult-Berg and its magnificent park with multiple species. Then the route takes the forest track for a pleasant climb surrounded by chestnut and beech. Let yourself be attracted by the beautiful natural melody of the streams and at the bend of a track, you will see the forest glass factory of Peyremoutou. Between the stream of Rieuvergnet which flows peacefully and small paths surrounded by trees in shimmering colors, the Croix de la Roque offers the horizon view towards the Hérault and the plain of Castres. The very pleasant descent to the finish offers a shaded course.
